Strategies for Financing Education: A global view

The global economic recession has tightened budgets, straining the willingness of donors to continue financing educational programs in low and middle income countries. In “Strategies for Financing of education: a global view,” Managing Director Nicholas Burnett highlights the need for further support for and research on education in low-income countries. Education is competing against a variety of global issues for international support and financing, and the need for quality schooling in low-income countries is not being met. Education in these countries, particularly those in conflict states and in Sub-Saharan Africa, is significantly lagging behind the international standard. In this paper, Burnett recommends a series of innovative financing options through which the international education can be improved.
